With rough economic times still looming, my family is trying to make the decision if we should take an expensive vacation this year or not. We LOVE to vacation, but this year it just might not be that feasible. My sister and her family are looking into Orlando vacations, but our vacation may be going to the beach this year.
If you are going on vacation this year, here are some money saving tips that can help you stretch your vacation dollar:
- Bring your own. Instead of buying water bottles and food, bring your own. Spend a little extra a day in hotel costs that include a refrigerator and buy food for breakfast and lunch from a local grocery store. Also have each individual bring their own refillable water bottle. Saves money and the environment!
- Find a hotel in your budget range that includes breakfast. Eat a large breakfast, late lunch and then a small dinner.
- Coupons, Coupons, Coupons! Before you go, check out online deals and coupons. Pick up local travel magazines and brochures that might include coupons. You will be surprised how much you can save. One year, I received free tickets to an amusement park for purchasing books from a bookstore that I frequent anyway.
- Spend a day or two at the hotel pool. If you booked a hotel with a pool, take advantage of it. Schedule some relaxation time into your busy schedule.
- Stick to a budget. Give each of your children a set amount to spend. When its gone, its gone.
- Ask your hotel if they offer any discounts on local attractions. Sometimes they are able to get reduced tickets.
- Pack Light. Airlines often charge for excess baggage (or some charge you for the first bag). Better to do a couple loads of laundry at the hotel than to pay all the excess charges.
- Invest in a guide book. Get a good guide book that list deals for your destination. Or, even better, go to your local library and read up ahead of time!
I hope this tips will help you save money on your next vacation!
