Great Wolf Lodge Review

by The Shopping Duck on July 23, 2009

Last weekend was my daughter’s birthday and we decided to surprise her by taking her to the Great Wolf Lodge in Williamsburg, Virginia. We didn’t tell her where we were going and we we drove up to the hotel she was impressed. After we walked in the door and she saw that they had an indoor water park, she was even MORE impressed.

The Great Wolf Lodge is loaded with family fun! Besides the indoor water park, they offer an arcade, a MagiQuest game (you use a wand to look for clues and solve puzzles), craft area, story telling, demonstrations and more.

The Pros and Cons:

Pros:

  • The ambiance is at its best here. The rooms, hallways and common areas are all decorated in a woodsy feel.
  • The WATERPARK! A perfect size for young kids with lots to do. My two younger kids (10 and 6) had a great time.
  • They provide a wide range of activities. We didn’t have time to experience all of them.
  • The arcade was fun for all ages. Tickets are given for playing different games and all three of my kids came home with small prizes.
  • If your kid is a Harry Potter fan, they will love the MagiQuest game. Each player uses a wand to solve clues and fights the dragon at the end.
  • Other amenities include, a spa for kids and adults, a fitness room, gr8_space Tech Center and Race Zone. Unfortunately, we didn’t have the chance to try everything!

Cons:

  • The price. Just one night at the Great Wolf Lodge can cost a pretty penny. Look for specials and deals and try and stay mid week.
  • The Waterpark is free, but almost everything else will cost you. There are fees for MagiQuest, crafts, arcade games, etc. Make sure that you budget accordingly. The Great Wolf Lodge does offer a Paw Pass that will help you save money on activities.
  • While my younger kids (and us adults) enjoyed the waterpark, my teenage daughter found the water slides a little to slow for her liking. She did like the arcade though.

The Great Wolf Lodge was a great mini vacation for our family and we will probably stay again!
