Its Spring! This is the time of the year where we all dust off the cobwebs, sweep the front porch and try to make the outside of our home appealing. I am always looking for budget friendly ways to brighten and spruce up the outside of my house. I hope you enjoy these as well!

Five Budget Friendly Ways to Beautify the Outside of Your Home

  1. Paint Your Front Door – My front door is currently black and I HATE it! I know, HATE is a strong word, but it is so dark and boring. I want to make the first impression of my home to be more appealing. I am currently deciding which color would be good for my front door. Here are some great suggestions:

It is really easy to paint your front door. Make sure that you get the appropriate paint for your type of door (wood or metal) and that is is exterior paint. Wash down and door and make sure that it is clean and dry. You will need to remove all the hardware and fix any dings. Invest in a good foam roller like this one. I LOVE foam rollers. The paint goes on much smoother. You will also need a foam brush if you have a door with panels to get into the crevices. Follow this guide to know which part of the door to paint first:

  2. Spruce up Flower Beds – If you have flower bed in front of your house, now is a good time to shop around for some bright flowering plants. Take note of whether your flower beds are in full sunshine or shade and then head on over to your local nursery!
  3. Add a Garden Flag – A garden flag catches the eye! I love the flags at Flagology! Not only do they have great designs, but you can customize them as well. Add a picture of your dog, a monogram or name.

Flagology.com flags come in different sizes: Garden Flags are 12.5″ x 18″ and House Flags are 28″ x 40″. Change your flag according to the seasons or holiday. I love this Spring flag:

Plus you can purchase door mats and flag accessories too! I purchased a patriotic flag for my garden with our monogram on it and I love it. It definitely brightens up the front of my house.

  4. Make A Wreath for Your Front Door – There are so many great ideas and tutorials on Pinterest for making a wreath for your front door. This cute idea uses flip flops (which you can buy for $1 a pair at Walmart).

Another of my favorite ideas is to buy a grapevine wreath, a few artificial flowers and some ribbon. Very easy to do and makes a cute wreath in your favorite color scheme.

  5. Potted Plants – I love to add color to my front door area by adding a few potted plants. If you can’t find the color pots you want, spray paint them! You can even find old pots at yard sales. Add some of your favorite plants and voilà!

  6. Lighting – Adding lighting to your front walk ways and landscaping is an easy and inexpensive way to brighten up your outdoor spaces. These solar lights from Amazon are cute and reasonably priced! Add them in flower beds and along paths.
