I fell in love with flatbreads a number of years ago. Often, when we go out to eat, we find that there are always an assortment of items that feature flatbreads. You will find them used in appetizers, main dishes and even desserts! I have never tried to make my own flatbread and I am not sure how I would even start. But now Krusteaz has made it easy! Krusteaz has just introduced three new flatbread mixes including Italian Herb, Garlic & Onion and Whole Wheat. Each some in a standard 1 lb box and each box retails for approximately $2.59.

One of the things I love about Krusteaz is how easy it is to make their mixes. If you haven’t tried Krusteaz in the past, make sure that you look at all the different varieties of mixes that they offer. All you need to make the new Flatbreads is water, oil and yeast and the yeast is included! You can pair the flatbreads with soups, stews, salads, pasta and other main dishes, or make the Flatbreads into their own main dish.

Since it was dinner time and I had the perfect ingredients on hand, I decided to make a couple pizzas with the Krusteaz Garlic & Onion Flatbread Mix. Simply put the dry ingredients from the box in a mixing bowl and stir in the included yeast. Add warm water and oil and stir until the dough forms a ball. Cover the bowl and let sit for 10 minutes while the oven is heating to 475.

I have some pizza pans so I divided the dough in half and made two round pizzas on each pan. The dough should be about 1/8 to 1/4 inch thick. For the first pizza, I browned some hamburger (just until the pink is gone). I added Swiss cheese slices to the crust and then put the hamburger on top.

For the second pizza, I put pasta sauce on the bottom (I had some homemade left over) then added grated Romano cheese and then teaspoons of ricotta cheese.

Each pizza was baked for 7-11 minutes until the edges were golden brown. Then we dug in!

I must say that I was really impressed with the flavor. The Garlic & Onion gave each pizza a little punch of flavor and the crust wasn’t soggy at all. If pizza just isn’t your thing, here are some great recipes from Hostess with the Mostess using Krusteaz Flatbreads:
