Last year, I tried a new service offered by our local Stop & Shop – Peapod Home Grocery Delivery. I used the service a few times and really liked it, but then I forgot about the great service and convenience and stopped using it.
Last week, I received an invitation from Peapod to tour their warehouse and see first hand how the Peapod service works. I met up with a few fellow bloggers, Liz from This Full House, Hillary from Mrs Mo’s New Jersey and Deborah from Jersey Bites at the Somerset Stop & Shop.
My perception of the grocery home delivery system was that personal shoppers travel the aisles in the store to complete your shopping list. This may have been the way it was done in the past, but Peapod has come up with a much more efficient system!
We took an elevator to the floor above the Stop & Shop and were shown a mini-warehouse. You won’t see the fancy displays here, the shelves are arranged by code. The personal shoppers pick the products by shelf number, not by product. This makes their job much easier and faster.

We strolled up and down the aisles and saw first-hand the personal shoppers at work. Frozen food and refrigerated food are pack in special containers that are insulated. Dry ice is added as necessary to keep the food at an optimal temperature.

Statistics on broken eggs, poor quality and customer satisfaction are tracked and each team of personal shoppers tries to outdo the other to get the best possible score! The food is loaded on the trucks and a computer program tracks each delivery.
I was very impressed with the efficiency of Peapod’s home grocery delivery system. In the next week or so, I am going to place another order with Peapod and tell you about my experience. Peapod is not just located in my area of New Jersey. Check to see if you can order from Peapod too!
Thank you Peapod for inviting The Shopping Duck to see what a great service you offer!

It seems to me that these racks are very big and good people will be able to take any increase, but it is very important!
