Our Mini Farm

by The Shopping Duck on March 17, 2010

tomatoLast year, we decided to grow a garden. We planted corn, strawberries, tomatoes, beans, peppers, squash and even watermelon. It was a lot of work, but made me dream of owning my own farm. I often wondered what it would be like to live on a farm and give the farming lifestyle a chance.

If I had my own farm, I would want to raise a variety of products and with a sustainable agricultural plan, I could grow food and do it in a environmentally responsible way while still making a profit! I don’t think I would like to raise animals on my farm, but I would love to have a few horses and maybe even a llama or two. And of course, I would love to have an orchard of fruit trees. Every year we travel to a local farm and have fun picking the apples and berries. The site of the trees and vines laden with fruit always make me wish for a farm of my own.

Of course, I know that owning a farm would require hard work and long hours. Fortunately, we live in a time where technology has enabled us to do a better job at any endeavor. Farming tools and technologies have come a long way since my Grandpa herded sheep in the hills of Utah to make a living!
