This year we are trying to cut back on our spending for the holidays. Holiday spending can be stressful, and you don’t want to receive a huge credit card bill in January. Here are my favorite tips for saving money during the holidays:
- Try and use coupons. Check your mail and you will find many stores offering dollars off coupons. Stores such as Kohls, Bath & Body Works and Bed, Bath and Beyond often offer such coupons. Do a search online for the store name plus the word coupon to find other deals that might be available.
- Sign up for online newsletters from stores you love. I often receive coupons in my email box with these newsletters.
- Make a budget and stick to it. Instead of an overall budget, make a budget for each person on your list. I usually try and buy my kids one bigger ticket item and then just a few other items.
- If you have children, consider what they will be getting from others. I am often asked for suggestions and I give them freely. Children usually get plenty of gifts when you factor in those from relatives and friends.
- Choose names. In both my family and my husband’s family we choose names instead of buying for everyone. This has saved us considerable money over the years. We buy for all the nieces and nephews because there are not very many, if you have a large group of cousins, have them choose names as well.
