Utah Light Show – Christmas In Color!

My family loves seeing the lights at Christmas time. We often drive around the neighborhood looking for great light displays. This year, we were able to treat ourselves to a drive through light show at the Provo Towne Centre Mall – Christmas in Color!

Immerse your family in our new Christmas light drive-thru that sends you down an enchanted, winding road with almost 1,000,000 LED Christmas lights that are beautifully synched to music that is sure to get you in the holiday spirit! And this all without having to leave the comfort of your warm and cozy car! You can order your ticket (per car pricing) online and then have the ticket sent directly to your cell phone. When you arrive, you just need to show the ticket to the person at the ticket booth and you are off! Make sure you have a working radio, because you will be asked to tune your radio to a specific station. This allows you to hear Christmas music that is synced to the light show.

You will want to drive slowly through the light show so that you can catch all the fun. My family’s favorite was the singing snowman and Christmas trees. There is also a fantastic tunnel that is quite psychedelic. There are two locations in Utah – Provo and South Jordan (and there are also locations in Arizona). The show runs until December 30th so make time to go through with your family. The show is open Monday – Thursday from 5:30 to 10:00pm and Friday and Saturday from 5:30 to 10:30pm.

Easy No Sew DIY Pillow Cover

I am always looking for easy ways to decorate for the changing seasons. The other day I was at Target and, as always, I checked out the Dollar Spot. If you haven’t shopped the Dollar Spot at Target you are missing out! Most items range in the $1 to $5 range. I notice some really cute Pet Blankets that they had and they were $3 each. The blankets were plaid or winter themed. I picked up a couple thinking I might have a use for them.

At home I have a number of 15″ x 15″ pillows. These pillows are great, but I wanted to spruce them up a bit for the upcoming holidays. Enter the pet blanket. The blankets are 36″ x 36″ and are a perfect fit for the pillows and I just had to make an Easy No Sew DIY Pillow Cover!

It was so easy to turn the pillows into new holiday decor! First, spread the blanket on the floor. Put the pillow on top of the blanket so it is on the diagonal.

Next fold other two opposite edges and tuck the points under.

Finally, tie together the two other pointed ends in a knot. You can tuck in the tails of the knot or leave them free.

Then arrange them on your couch! Don’t they look cute. My dog, Pepper is showing them off. You can either have the knot ends showing or turn them around for a smooth finish. The whole project took me less than five minutes! You can also use any piece of material that you want to make these easy pillows.

While you are at the Target Dollar Spot, check out their cute sweaters, coats and hats for your furry friend as well. I picked up a cute pink set for my daughter’s dog Penny. Isn’t she cute! Target Dollar Spot is one of my favorite places to shop. Check it out frequently for some great deals.

Easy DIY Painted Glass Ornaments

My kids and I love to craft! I am always on the look out for crafting ideas that all of us can do. This is such a fun craft and it is easy for kids of all ages (with a little adult supervision). We have silver and blue decorations on our Christmas tree, but I wanted to add a little bit more. There were some areas of the tree that were a little sparse so I decided that adding some silver glass ornaments would be perfect.

Easy DIY Painted Glass Ornaments

Supplies Needed:

Glass Ornaments
Paint – I love using the metallic paint. It really makes a nice finish.
Marking Pen – You can find these at the craft store. Again I love the metallic ones
Paper Cups – I had these little ones, but you can use small paper cups too. Just make sure that the glass ball can sit on the rim without falling in.

The concept was easy – simply add paint to the glass balls! You can use one color, or multiple colors. My daughter and I actually three different colors of metallic paint in each ball to give it a swirly look. We add the paint and then swirled it around to cover the entire inside of the ball. We did have to shake the balls a little to get the paint to cover, but simply putting your finger over the opening of the ball prevents paint from flying everywhere!

Putting paint inside the glass ornament

After we had applied the paint, we simply but each glass ornament in one of the paper cups upside down. This allows the extra paint to drain from the ornament.

Glass Ornaments Remove Excess Paint

After the excess paint has drained we replaced the metals tops and then used a silver pen to decorate our ornaments. Then we placed them on our tree!

This project was a lot of fun!

{Book Review} Create a New Family Tradition with Reindeer Dust

My kids love family traditions! One of our family traditions is collecting Santa ornaments for a tree. Over the years we have collected over one hundred Santa ornaments. It is always fun to add the ornaments to the tree each year! We also love creating new traditions. This year, I was able to read a copy of the book by Kate Dwyer and illustrated by Joanne Lew-Vriethoff entitled Reindeer Dust.

Reindeer Dust is a beautifully illustrated book with a cute story. This fun tale tells the story of hungry and harried reindeer who can’t find houses to land on through thick fog. Santa has a sled overflowing with presents, but he’ll never be able to deliver them if the reindeer don’t know where to land. One little boy, William, devises a plan: he mixes up a special batch of reindeer dust and he and his friends and family sprinkle it outside while reciting “I will always believe!” Through the thick fog, the reindeer are able to spot the glittering trail of reindeer dust, and Christmas is saved!

In the back of the book, is the complete poem as well as a recipe for reindeer dust. The recipe is large enough that it can be shared with friends and family too!

The author, Kate Dwyer, is a mother of two who says about the book: “It was important for me to write a book that features an engaging element that would both visually and physically bring the story to life.”

Reindeer Dust is the recipient of the Mom’s Choice Gold Award and the IBPA Gold (for best cover design) and two Silver (for best first book and best interior design) Awards. You can find out more about Reindeer dust:
