When the winter arrives, many people start to think about their garden and all the necessary precautions and plans for re-planting in the next spring. There are many things to consider, including how to protect your expensive equipment stored in your garden shed during the winter.

Most garden sheds are made out of wood and it is especially important that you treat your garden shed annually so that the wood is protected from water and prevents rotting. Since we host a few barbecues over the summer, it is a must that we get the patio in ship shape condition. I can’t believe how much dirt is all over the patio furniture after the winter. I usually mix up a mild solution of detergent and water so that I can clean off the furniture without a lot of chemicals. Fortunately, we own a power washer that we use to clean the concrete from all the stains and dirt from the winter.

It always seems that the harsher the winter, the dirtier the patio!

Spring is just around the corner. Well, not according to Punxsutawney Phil, the groundhog. He predicted six more weeks of winter. Boo! But, now is a good time to start thinking about outdoor renovations.

I start making a list of the plants that I want to plant and any improvements that I want to make to my yard. This year I am thinking about wall fountains. I love the sound of trickling water and a wall fountain might make a good addition to our yard.

Now that Halloween is fast approaching, I need to check my landscape lighting to make sure that it is all working correctly. We have some solar lights around our landscaping and sometimes they don’t work correctly. I like to have the walkway lit so that the kids do not trip on their way to the door to get their treats.
