This year, on May 5th, is the 3rd Annual Mom’s Night Out. Moms around the world are invited to celebrate National Mom’s Nite Out. This event is a nationally organized celebration of motherhood intended to bring together today’s moms. Here is the description from the Mom’s Nite Out website:

The evening will consist of local events held across the country, as well as mom-organized parties and virtual activities. To allow moms everywhere to join in on the fun, mothers will be invited to throw their own mom’s nite out event by downloading party ideas and elements from The National Mom’s Nite Out website. The night of the event moms can join in on the fun through online chats and tweet-ups.

I am still working to get all the stuff I need ready for my daughter’s sweet sixteen party. Good thing I have access to color printing so I could print off the invitations myself. I still need to order food, order blacklight stuff and get the house in order for the party. I am not sure how many people are coming yet, so I am going to wait a little to order the food.

Hopefully the party will be a great success!!

It doesn’t seem like Christmas until we have the Christmas tree up and the lights and decorations on. Monday night we purchased the tree, Tuesday I put on all the lights and yesterday, we decorated. Well, the decorating was mostly done by myself and my six year old son who finds it fun and not a chore like the older two girls.

This morning I went downstairs to find all the home lighting turned off, the tree lights on, and my son sitting on the floor playing with some of the Santa ornaments. He REALLY loves Santa. I wish I had taken out my camera and took of picture of the pure joy on his face. There are no presents under the tree just yet, and he is hoping that will happen soon!

My son is excited for the big feast tomorrow! He had a pretend feast in school (they dressed as pilgrims) but he was disappointed that they had bologna instead of Turkey. Hopefully this holiday will be a safe one. It always seems that we need to pull out the Medicare supplement insurance to take someone to the emergency room for stitches. I am not letting anyone handle any sharp knives this year!

Stuffed Mushrooms
Assorted Pies and Desserts

Tonight I am going to make an eggnog and chocolate cheesecake. I haven’t tried this recipe yet, but it sounds delicious!

This week my eldest daughter is at an all girls church camp (heaven help the leaders!). Just one week ago, she sliced her ear open by dropping the handle of the lawn mower on the back of her head. Don’t ask me how this happened, I have no idea. I am not one to rush off to the ER or doctor for every cut and bruise but after looking at her ear and seeing the big gash, I told her we had to go.

Four stitches later and a little bit of tears (the numbing shots were what hurt) she is all better. She needs the stitches removed today, and fortunately the nurse at the camp is a friend of our and is going to take care of it.

Last night we reviewed her packing list adding Triple Antibiotic Ointment for the ear and acne treatment to the list. She left early this morning and is excited for a fun week. We get to go up on Thursday for a special presentation and see her then. I just hope she keeps that ear clean!

This is the first year that I have heard about the World’s Longest Garage Sale. An article appeared in the Parade magazine recently about a garage sale that is held every year and stretches for 654 miles. The sale was started in Tennessee in the late 1990s and now goes from Ohio to Alabama on Highway 127. This year the sale is being held from August 6th to August 9th.

Not only does it include personal garage sale items, but businesses and stores along the route also but out their fares.

The temperature has dropped here and it is even cold inside our house. I hate to turn the heat up because that just costs even more money. I was thinking of installing one of those material handling vinyl strip doors so that I could put a small heater in one room and block the cold air from another area of the housed (there is no door). But then I thought that it might look silly!

This year, I want to throw a Halloween party. I always thought it would be fun to have a costume party and a scary theme. There are so many recipes for cool looking Halloween food that I am sure it would be a great success. I found these cool Halloween invitations that I thought would do the trick. Now, all I have to do is plan the party!

The day starts with instruction on controlling a racecar followed with live demonstrations and practice in Volvos. I might be a little paranoid, but I certainly would make sure that both my medical insurance and term life insurance were up to date before attempting this adventure!
