I was privileged to be able to watch a sneak preview of the new movie Mighty Fine which will be released to theaters on May 25th. It will only be showing in select theaters, you can check to see if there is a theater near you here.

The movie stars Chazz Palminteri, Andie McDowell, Jodelle Ferland and Rainey Qualley. While the story is fictional, it draws on writer/director Debbie Goodstein’s memories of her own childhood. She recalls that her father had anger issues and although he loved his family he exhibited self-destructive impulses and rages. The story revolves around Joe Fine, father to Maddie, a 16 year old trying to spread her wings and Natalie, a somewhat introverted young teen. The mother, Stella, is a holocaust survivor and the peacemaker of the family. The story is introduced in voice-over by the grown up Natalie played by Janeane Garofolo.

In the beginning of the film, the family is moving from New York City to Louisiana and everything seems to be great! The father lavishes gifts on his family and buys them a brand new house. However, the viewer realizes that some of the comments made by the Maddie and Natalie just don’t add up. They are hoping for a big change – not just a change of scenery. Unfortunately, Joe Fine’s business is failing and he the anger issues that were present before the move start to manifest again. While Stella tries to keep peace, the daughter’s each handle their father’s anger in their own way. I don’t want to give too much detail about the film, but the ending is very optimistic.

If you have ever dealt with someone who has anger or other mental health issues, than you will find this film very real. In fact, I found that it was difficult at times to watch, however, the film brings emphasizes that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Enjoy this clip from the movie:

If you haven’t see Marvel’s The Avengers yet, it is the must see film of the season. My favorite character is the Incredible Hulk. I absolutely love Mark Ruffalo and think he did a great job with the role. He reminded me of Bill Bixby who played the role of Bruce Banner on the television shows years ago. Anyway, the movie broke box office history in its first weekend making $207.4 million during its 3-day opening in the United States.

This movie is definitely worth seeing a second time! The story line was well developed and I loved the bits of comedy woven into the story. Also, the music in the film is great. “Live to Rise,” the original song written for and appearing in the film is the first single from the Marvel Music/Hollywood Records release Avengers Assemble. I have been telling you that my family can’t wait for Marvel’s The Avengers to come to theaters on May 4th.  In fact, my daughter just begged me yesterday to let her attend the all day movie marathon at AMC theaters that includes five of the previous movies and the midnight showing of The Avengers.

But in order to fight as a team, you have to work as one and that is not the case. Can earth’s mightiest heroes put aside their pity gripes and unite as one to save the earth they fought so hard to protect in the past?

Warner Bros. Pictures recently announced the release of the hit romantic comedy New Year’s Eve on DVD and Blu Ray on May 1st! I wanted to see this movie in the theaters, but never had the time. Now I will be able to get the DVD. New Year’s Eve stars Ashton Kutcher, Michelle Pfeiffer, Katherine Heigl, Sofia Vergara, Hilary Swank, Sarah Jessica Parker, Zac Efron, Jon Bon Jovi, and Josh Duhamel! What a list of great actors.

Did you have a chance to watch the final episode of the series One Tree Hill? If you didn’t you are now able to order the final season (season nine) of One Tree Hill on DVD/UltraViolet. This season saw the past catching up with some of the characters of One Tree HillThe past finally seems to catch up with the characters of One Tree Hill in Season 9. After the death of his wife, Clay lost some of his memory, this season he learns he has a six year old son. Brooke struggles as X is released on parole and she runs into him everywhere. Dan hopes that he will be able to redeem himself for his past crimes that haven’t been quite forgotten by his family or the town.

Did you ever do something wrong in your life and hope, like Dan, that people have forgotten all about it? I know that sometimes our past choices catch up with us. It is so difficult to see people from the past that may have known us differently. I know that a friend of mine, who recently went through a divorce, say some friends of hers from years ago. They did not know about the divorce, so they were asking tons of questions about her ex. This was very difficult for her – it brought up painful memories that she was hoping to put behind her.

We were fortunate to be able to attend a sneak peak of Disney’s Chimpanzee last night. This movie, is a nature documentary which follows the lives of a group of Chimpanzees. Filmed in Africa, the makers of this movie would sometimes travel as much as 15 miles a day following the Chimpanzees around.

The film centers around the new life of one of the chimpanzees in the group – Oscar. Oscar is a very young chimpanzee, learning how to survive in live in the jungle. Searching for food is a daily task and when a rival chimpanzee group tries to take over their food source, there are disastrous consequences. There are some frightening parts in the film which might scare very young movie goers, but the ending is a happy one!

This film is beautifully shot and gives a very brief glimpse into the lives of the Chimpanzee. I highly recommend it as a great family film. This clip takes all about the making of the movie:

Have you faced new challenges in your lifetime? I know I certainly have! It seems that once I get settled into a new routine, a new challenge comes along. Right now, we are thinking about moving to another state. This presents its own unique challenges. I have realized that in order to prepare for such a big event that I must organize the move in my own way. I have started a notebook that helps me deal with each area of the house and include such topics as painting, repairs that need to be made and packing that needs to be done.

This season on One Tree Hill, many of the characters have been faced with new challenges. For instance, Brooke and Julian are new parents, Clay is sleepwalking and forgetting periods of time and Haley wants to find the kidnapped Nathan. Of course, some of the challenges that these characters face are challenges that I hope I will never have to go through.
