It is soon Prom Season, and as a senior this year, my daughter will be attending prom. Fortunately I have found some really cute prom dresses! We looked on PromGirl.net and found some great fashion-forward dresses – she is having a hard time choosing!

One of the styles that we love and that is all the rage right now is the one-shoulder prom dresses. These dresses come in a variety of styles and colors. The Tony Bowls dress is a beautiful purple shade with just the right kind of detail with a floral one shoulder strap, ruched bodice and a slit skirt.

I have a daughter who is five foot ten inches tall. She has a hard time finding jeans that are the right length. In the store, she will try them on and they will be just the right length, but as soon as they are washed, they are way too short. I decided to do a little only search and try and find a site that sells Big and Tall Clothing. I figured that this type of store might carry longer jeans.

I came across G&L Clothing that has been around since 1917. This shop has a wide variety of clothing for men and women and they also have children’s clothing. You can choose the length for jeans that you want, so now I can find the perfect fit for my daughter. They don’t only carry jeans! My daughters always include shoes on their Christmas lists. They like all kinds of shoes: flats, high heels, boots, slippers – you name it, they just love shoes. Each year I think I get them at least one pair of shoes. This year, my younger daughter wants a pair of Uggs with the fold down top. My older daughter is more into the Toms. I also have to end up buying them some nice shoes to go with their Christmas outfits. With all the shoes that I have to buy, you know I am looking for good deals!

When my kids were younger, I was able to buy every piece of clothing for them. From dresses to play outfits to shoes and socks, it was my sense of style that was also my kids sense of style. Now, my daughter, Rachel, who just turned twelve, has developed her own sense of style. If she needs new clothes, I need to take her shopping so that she can pick out her own clothes. It was interesting to watch her grow and develop her own individuality. Here are some of the ways that I noticed that influenced my daughter’s sense of style:

Older Sister – Older siblings do have an impact on younger siblings. When Rachel first started insisting on shopping for her own clothes, she would pick styles similar to what her older sister was wearing. She was excited to receive hand me down clothes and wore them often. Now, while she still tends toward some of the fashions that her sister wears, she turns her nose up at some of the hand me downs because they are simply not her style.

Media – Media (such as television, movies and magazines) have an influence on Rachel’s style. Fortunately, she watches age appropriate programming that promote more modest styles. She realizes that there are many kids her age that are wearing items of clothing that are not appropriate and she steers away from those items.

Family and Faith – Every since my children were little, we stressed the concept that modesty is a good thing. Today, there are so many negative images in the media that promote very immodest clothing choices. Rachel has decided, with the guidance of family and church, that modest clothes are still cool. Unfortunately, trying to find modest clothing can be trying. Recently, when shopping for shorts, we were amazed at the number of short shorts that we could find, but the more modest styles were few and far between.

Rachel is a very thoughtful shopper, she has a style that encompasses the fashion she loves and at the same time the modest look that she feels comfortable with. She is great at mixing t-shirts and camisoles with jeans and capris. She will bypass an article of clothing if she feels that it does not meet her requirements. By adding accessories, such as jewelry, purses and belts, Rachel is able to throw together cute outfits that make her feel good on the outside and on the inside!
