Every holiday season the stress seems to wear me down and that means an outbreak of cold sores! How I hate them! Not only are they ugly, but they are very painful as well. This year, we plan on spending the holidays with relatives eating good food and playing fun games and I don’t want a cold sore to interrupt the fun. Cold sores make it very painful to eat and even smile!

I usually know when a cold sore it about to hit. I get this tingly season on my lip and that is when I run for the Abreva. I love that Abreva is the only over-the-counter medication approved by the FDA that is proven to shorten the healing time and duration of a cold sore. Plus, it is the number one medication recommended by Pharmacists! If I don’t use Abreva, the cold sore can last for more than a week.

What is a cold sore?

A cold sore is a blister usually caused by the Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV-1) and affects the lips or mouth but can spread to other areas as well. It is usually contracted early in childhood and is very contagious. While about 90% of adults are infected by the cold sore virus, only about 20-40% will experience cold sores. Almost 80 million Americans suffer from cold sores. If left untreated, the cold sore can last for up to 2 weeks! Many things can trigger the outbreak of a cold sore including, fatigue, stress, cold weather (dry air and winter wind included), UV Rays, hormonal changes, trauma to your mouth or lips (like an injury or dental procedure) and a fever, cold or the flu.

How do you use Abreva?

To use Abreva, simply apply the medication directly to your cold sore at the first sign of a tingle, redness, bump or itch. This will give you the best results. It is recommended for adults and children 12 years of age and older and should be used five times a day until the cold sore is healed (maximum of 10 days). Make sure you remove any cosmetics before applying Abreva and always wash your hands with soap and warm water before and after applying Abreva. Always talk to your doctor if your cold sore lasts longer than 10 days.

If you suffer from cold sores, next time try Abreva risk free. If you aren’t completely satisfied with Abreva for any reason, save your receipt and remaining product, and call 1-877-709-3539 to get your money back.

Disclaimer: I am participating in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Abreva, and received free product and compensation in return for my participation.

  27. I do get cold sores. I have gotten a pill from the doctor before, but I’ve found that I have to use any meds as quickly as possible. Abreva works the best b/c I carry it with me and can use it at the first sign. If I wait, no matter what I use, the cold sore explodes across my face.
